After an exceptional route ended with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory in the final against American player Serena Williams, Simona Halep wins his second Grand Slam trophy at Wimbledon 2019.
Simona Halep, who played the fifth Grand Slam final, after three at Roland Garos and one at the Australian Open, won in just 55 minutes in front of one of the best players in tennis history, Serena Williams having seven titles at Wimbledon from a total of 23 Grand Slam titles of his career.
“I think it was the best match that I ever had.” said Simona Halep at the end of the match. “I have changed my game a bit to win more matches on the grass and this year I felt more that I could do more with the ball and I cannot wait to get back next year,” he added.
This is the first trophy won at Wimbledon by a player from Romania at singles.
At doubles man’s the Wimbledon tournament was also won by the Romanian Ilie Năstase together with American Jimmy Connors in 1973 and by Romanian Horia Tecău and Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer in 2015, and at doubles mixed by Ilie Năstase and American Rosemary Casais in 1970 and 1972.
