Today Romania concludes a page in its history with the death of its last king, King Michael I.
Born at Peleș Castle in Sinaia / Romania, on October 25, 1921, King Mihai died today 5 December 2017 at his residence in Aubonne / Switzerland. He was 96 years old.
He was king of Romania between 20 July 1927 – 8 June 1930 (first reign) and between 6 September 1940 – 30 December 1947 (second reign).
The inanimate body of King Mihai will be deposited in the Honor Hall of Peleș Castle in Sinaia, and then for two days in the throne room of the Royal Palace in Bucharest. The funeral service will take place at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest. The funeral will take place in Curtea de Argeș, in the new Archbishopric and Royal Cathedral.
At the Royal Crown Custodian’s wishes, the funerals of King Mihai I will respect the tradition of the predecessors of His Defunct Majesty.
